It is how ever much sharper and does remove material as it passes but the line left is the same shape as the tool itself…a V groove. The next scribe is similar that it too leaves a V like line behind but not as pronounced this tool does a great job of cutting through plastic but you’ll find that like the others except the saw it doesn’t do as great a job on harder and softer materials/

Another basic tool for engraving surface detail into plastic is a steel machinist's scriber that has a very sharp (preferably carbide or diamond) tip. It scratches instead of plowing , so it creates raised edges on each side of the line that must be removed with sandpaper or very fine steel wool; sanding debris must then be removed from the scribed line with a sharp pin.

The following tools are used for measuring and marking-out when working with metals and plastics:- Engineer's square – Used to help draw a perpendicular line on material with a scribe.

Removing the label tape, the start of my line is revealed. Here you can see a slight “oops”, easily corrected with Mr. Surfacer and light sanding. I finish the panel line scribing using the back of a #11 blade. The scribing tool “spreads” the plastic, while the #11 blade removes a small amount of plastic.

Take a 15" or so length, tie a small thumb loop at one end, wrap loop around thumb...3-4" later, wrap the rest around your index finger...just work it back and forth (it helps a LOT to first scribe the line to be cut). The friction of the thread on the plastic will cut it (technically, the friction builds heat and the thread melts its way through).

The basic process of scribing isn’t hard to wrap your head around (click here for a step by step tutorial from one of our old Project House builds—which, ironically, is another mantel build), but things get trickier when you need to cut a piece not only so that it fits against an irregular surface, but also so that after cutting you’re left with a piece that lands on your layout marks. A tight-fitting scribe where a cabinet face frame meets a bumpy wall won’t be all that impressive ...

Step 1, Align your remover tool with the edge of the E-clip. Most E-clip removers have a smooth, curved edge. Line up the curved edge on your tool with the curve of the E-clip, and place your tool just below the E-clip.[1] X Research source There are several different types of E-clip removers, and you can use them all in a similar way.Step 2, Push upwards and apply steady, moderate pressure. Once your tool is aligned with the E-clip, simply press up on the tool to remove it from its position ...
