A good writer is one who writes often and writes with various techniques and strategies. The writer is concise and precise with words; punctuates with ease; and frames the piece of writing with heart and soul. The piece must reflect the writer's voice and style. When one reads a piece of writing, that person should connect in some way with the writer.

Good writers read. It's that simple. Words are the lifeblood of great writing. There's no way to get good without lots of valuable input. Get an editor. A good writer recognizes he needs help. He can't do this on his own (neither can you). You need to get someone to critique your writing, someone you trust. I suggest a peer editor for starters. Capture ideas. A good writer is constantly gathering creative input. Ideas are the inspiration for artists and writers.

Good writing includes precise and accurate word choices and well crafted sentences. Grammar and style: Many writers would wish this one away, but for a piece of writing to be considered good (let alone great), it has to follow the rules of grammar (and break those rules only when there’s a good reason). Style is also important in ensuring that a piece of writing is clear and consistent.

Entertaining, educating, and inspiring people makes you a good writer. Writing to meet a market need doesn’t make you a hack, it makes you a person who actually earns from their writing. In 2017, art and business aren’t mutually exclusive. They’ve bled into one another and the line is blurred.
